Gary Maddux, a Martindale-Hubbell “Preeminent” Top 5% Lawyer, has extensive business  as both in house counsel and in his current practice, and previously as a practicing CPA, in helping clients evaluate and consider ongoing day to day operations issues. 

Given my experience of working as part of the management team of three privately held companies, and in-house counsel with a Fortune 200 corporation, I have seen and helped consider business issues when negotiating contracts from the perspective of an owner and as a member of management.  I have had direct responsibility, as part of management, for the negotiating and the acquisition of pipeline systems, a 100,000 acre gas concession with the Osage Nation, an exclusive supply and distributorship arrangement for remote oil field monitoring and operating systems with the largest supplier of equipment to the independent oil and gas industry, an exclusive supply agreement for integral components for the remote operation system with an international manufacturer (through both of these negotiations, we were able to lock up the largest supplier of the equipment and the most advanced manufacturer of the key components for the system – a very nice position to be), the negotiation for funds from industry sources to fund an aggressive gas field development program, and other challenging projects.  Obviously, I also served as legal counsel for each of these projects.  But here is the point.  Through this experience, I now look at contract negotiations as both a businessman as well as an attorney.

My contract experience is not limited to the complex maters described above.  Clients also consult me regarding advice for their day to day operations.  These matters range from shareholder agreements (or buy sale agreements), Employment agreements, leases, loan documents and other day to day matters.
